Sr. Aquarist

We are looking for a working aquarist with a specialization or interest in Planted Tank Aquariums. We operate a thriving e-commerce business that sells to freshwater aquarium owners and need to relocate to Virginia for expansion.

Our website sells direct to customers and we also are available through several marketplaces (Etsy, Amazon & Walmart). We fulfill over 600 orders a week to the 48 US states.

This role is ideal for someone who has kept planted tanks for years, has strong opinions about CO₂ and substrate, and genuinely enjoys explaining the hobby to others. You don't have to have e-commerce experience for this job, we are happy to train you on those parts of the job (photographing and filming our tanks for social media).

Core Duties

  • Build out our aquarium setup in Virginia — 200 small to midsize freshwater tanks to start off our operations. Each tank has CO₂ and dedicated lighting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of popular aquarium plants ex: Java Moss, Bucephalandra, Water Lettuce, Red Root Floaters and different freshwater shrimp, snails and clams.
  • Monitor health of plants and livestock, perform weekly water changes.
  • Respond to customer questions as required.
  • Manage weekly inventory reviews and re-stock requests to ensure the warehouse is fully stocked.
  • Oversee the shipment of plants and livestock to our customers — we ship over 2,000 packages a month that all include plants and live animals. We have well documented procedures on how this is done — as our Sr. Aquarist, this is an area you will have to develop expertise in.
  • Take photographs and make clips of our tanks for our team to turn into advertisements.

We are looking to hire a total of 4 people into this location. 1 role is for the Sr. Aquarist, the other 3 will focus on packing and shipping. Being a team player, a genuinely nice person and having a real passion for this hobby are all important traits in who we are looking for.

Sr. eCommerce Operator

We are looking for a Sr. eCommerce Operator to oversee the management and maintenance of a thriving Direct to Consumer eCommerce business specialized in planted tanks and the comic book hobby. While you are not required to have experience in aquariums (or comics) you must have an interest in learning more about the aquarium side of the business.

The job requires overseeing two digital properties (one devoted to planted tanks, the other to vintage comics) — with the majority of the focus (90%) being on the aquarium business.

Our website sells direct to customers and we also are available through several marketplaces (Etsy, Amazon & Walmart). We fulfill over 600 orders a week to the 48 US states and are one of the top 3 largest planted tank websites online.

Core Duties

  • Oversee the shipment of plants and livestock to our customers — we ship over 2,000 packages a month that all include plants and live animals. We have well documented procedures on how this is done.
  • Build relationships with social media influencers to promote our products.
  • Optimize our PPC campaigns on Google, Meta & Bing.
  • Manage our tech platform: Shopify, ShipStation, Omnisend and Claude Code.
  • The core job will be to manage the team day to day. The staff will have an aquarist (someone whose sole job it is to manage our aquarium setup) on staff and you will work closely with the aquarist on content development, shipping logistics and shipping operations.
